IPM- Integrated Pest Management Conference

I head up to Edmonton next week (February 8th and 9th, 2011) to attend the Integrated Pest Management Conference put on by the Alberta Beekeeping Association, and sponsored by Medivet Pharmaceutical (a High River, AB based company). This is going to be an incredibly informative conference for me since I spend most of my time researching natural and or organic pest management practices. I feel that it is important to understand how the industrial-commercial method of beekeeping is progressing so I am able to communicate more clearly to my community, and find some clarity in my arguments against such practices as well. I feel that it is my responsibility to be a conduit of information for the beekeeping community but also, I feel that a one-sided look at anything  is the Achilles heel of any train of thought. I don’t want A.B.C to exclude any part of the beekeeping community based on a dogmic stigma against a ‘certain type’ of beekeeping practice. Rather, by learning about all methods and practices of honeybee care, I feel that I will be better suited to share, and teach all members of the honeybee keeping community about all opportunities of alternative practice and allow them the opportunity to choose. I feel that what you don’t know CAN hurt you, and therefore, I will be leaving before the crack of dawn on Tuesday to make it up to Edmonton for 8am.
